Welcome upon arrival and transfer to your hotel in San Jose.
After breakfast, depart for a tour of Poas Volcano National Park. During the drive, you will notice the changes in temperature and vegetation, signaling the exuberant cloud forest of the Poas Volcano. The volcano's crater is one of the widest in the world. Later we will enjoy a short hike to the Botos Lagoon (an extinct crater) where many species of this cloud forest can be observed.
After leaving the national park we will continue to Sarchi to tour the Else Kienztler Botanical Garden. This botanical garden houses over 2,000 plant varieties spread over seventeen acres. Here you can wander along more than a mile of footpaths. Later we will continue on to Sarapiqui, known for its white water rapids. (B)
After breakfast, transport to Puerto Viejo River for the start of your rafting tour. The Puerto Viejo River skirts important biological reserves that are home to amazingly diverse wildlife and flora. In the afternoon you can choose from several optional tours such as horseback riding or hiking the trails at the lodges enchanting farm. (B, L)
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive through the San Carlos Valley to the Arenal Volcano. Relax in the hotels thermal waters and enjoy Arenals dramatic performance or receive an invigorating spa treatment (optional). (B)
Today we drive to Bosque de Paz ''The Peace Forest''. This 988 acre private biological reserve serves as a corridor between two national parks: Poas and Juan Castro Blanco. This cloud forest is a bird sanctuary where the quetzal, emerald toucanet, and many other species are frequently seen. We'll spend 2 nights in this enchanting preserve. The next morning, meet your local guide and explore the flora and fauna that surrounds the area. (B, L, D)
Enjoy the morning before your transfer back to San Jose for your last night in Costa Rica.
