Welcome upon arrival in Lima and transfer to your hotel in the famous Miraflores neighborhood. If time permits, venture out into Peru’s amazing culinary world.
Morning tour of colonial and modern Lima. After lunch, experience the Inca’s legacy at the Larco Museum followed by a stop at a classic Peruvian tavern for some Pisco Sour and typical Peruvian petite bouchées. (B)
Early morning flight to Arequipa; the "white city". Welcome and transfer to your hotel upon arrival. During the afternoon you will enjoy a tour of the city and the Santa Catalina Monastery. (B)
Depart from Arequipa to Chivay. During the drive you will probably observe wild vicuñas and some birds such as; Andean goose, kara kara falcon, flamingoes and black ibis. We will also stop at several lookouts for amazing views of the volcanoes Misti, Chachani, Pichu Pichu, Ampato, Sabancaya and Colca Valley. (BL)
Morning excursion to The Cross of the Condor to observe the depth of the canyon and the majestic flight of the Condor. During the afternoon we will travel via tourist bus to Puno (12,421 ft.). Tip: Amazing skies for stargazing in Puno. (B)
Today we will tour Lake Titicaca, the world's highest lake navigable. First we will visit the Uros Indians' floating reed island (built on layers of totora reeds). Continue towards Taquile Island. This remote island is a remarkable community where Quechua, the language of the Incas, is kept alive. The highlight of its inhabitants is their handicraft derived from techniques developed over centuries. (B)
Travel all day via tourist bus to Cuzco (11,152 ft.). During our journey, we will stop at Pucara, Racchi and Andahuylillas. Optional: Upgrade and travel aboard the "Andean Explorer" train by Orient Express (see pricing under Price Details) - only Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays (Apr to Oct) or Saturdays. (B)
During the morning you will enjoy a visit the ruins at Kenko, Tambomachay, Puka Pukara, Saqsaywaman. In the afternoon we will tour Cuzco with its ancient cathedrals and amazingly crafted Inca walls.. (B)
Today we will explore the Sacred Valley (9,350 ft.) and experience the rich colors of its traditional towns and ruins. Through the scenic countryside we will make our way to the town of Pisac to visit the town's colorful market. After lunch and before returning to Cuzco, we will tour the town of Ollantaytambo. Here, you will visit the site of the beautiful rose-colored stone ruins where the Incas fought the Spaniards. (BL)
Early train to Machu Picchu (7,875 ft.). During the trip you will enjoy great views of the mountains, river and maybe a glance of the awesome Condor. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes you will begin a guided tour of Machu Picchu. After the tour you can continue to explore Machu Picchu on your own or return to the town with the group. (B)
Free day to return to Machu Picchu or explore nearby areas such as the famous Machu Picchu mountain. You might want to wake up early and take some pictures from the Puerta del Sol at Machu Picchu. Today is also a great opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu (entrance and reservation included). We will return by train to Cuzco during the mid afternoon. (B)
Travel to the Amazon Basin areas. Welcome upon arrival to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the Tambopata River for a small boat cruise to the lodge. Along the way, the vegetation changes from colonized deforested areas to virgin rainforest. In the late afternoon we will set off for an introductory walk into the "terra firma" forest behind the lodge dominated by giant Brazil-nut and Dipteryx trees. Frequently seen mammals on this trail are Saddle-back Tamarinds, Brown Capuchins, Agoutis, Pacas, Blue-Morpho butterflies, Trogons, Toucans and many other species of birds. After dinner we will enjoy a night walk to find nocturnal species - about 50% of the animals are nocturnal in the rainforest. (BLD)
After an early breakfast we will board a motorized canoe for a short journey to begin an exploration of the lake system of Condenado. Here we will observe a wider variety of animal life. From a giant otters to birds such as Rufescent Tiger-herons, Great Egrets, Wattled Jacanas, Hoatzin and the noisy Donacobius. During the afternoon you can choose from a variety of activities. From a self-guided walk in the forest to enjoying great views from our tree-tops bridges. After dark we will go searching for caiman (alligators) and other nocturnal animals. (BLD)
Early transfer to Puerto Maldonado to board your flight to Lima. If needed in Lima, we can arrange for 1/2 day hotel plus transfer. Bon Voyage! (B)
