This adventure will allow you to explore the diversity of Peru . You will journey back in time as you visit the sacred land of the Incas, only to venture on to experience the exotic beauty of the Amazon Reserve. Requires arrival in Lima on Saturdays, Mondays or Thursdays. Itinerary can be modified to better fit your travel dates.

Itinerary


Day 1: Lima

Welcome upon your arrival in Lima.  Transfer to your hotel in the famous Miraflores neighborhood.  If time permits, we can arrange for a visit to some of Lima’s cultural sites or just relax while exploring Miraflores at your own pace.

Day 2: Lima

During the morning you will enjoy a guided city tour of Lima.  In the afternoon you will visit the famous Larco and Archeological museums.  Enjoy the rest of the evening before your flight to Cuzco early tomorrow morning. (B)

Day 3: Lima / Cuzco

Upon arriving in Cuzco (11,152 ft.), our guide will take you to the hotel where you can spend the morning resting and acclimating to the altitude. In the afternoon you will enjoy a group guided tour of Cuzco with its ancient cathedrals and amazingly crafted Inca walls. You will also visit Cuzco's nearby ruins; Kenko, Tambomachay, Puka Pukara, Saqsaywaman. (B)

Day 4: Cuzco / Sacred Valley; Pisac & Ollantaytambo / Cuzco

Today you will visit the Sacred Valley (9,350 ft.) and experience the rich colors of its traditional towns and ruins. Through the scenic countryside we will make our way to the town of Pisac to visit the town's colorful market. Before returning to Cuzco, our afternoon will come to a close at the town of Ollantaytambo. Here, you will visit the site of the beautiful rose-colored stone ruins where the Incans fought against the Spaniards. (B, L)

Day 5: Cuzco / Machu Picchu

Early morning transfer to board the train (upgraded to Vistadome) to Machu Picchu (7,875 ft.). During the trip you will enjoy great views of the mountains, river and sometimes a glance of the awesome Condor. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes you will begin a guided tour of Machu Picchu.  We will descend to Aguas Calientes in the late afternoon where you can enjoy a relaxing evening. (B)

Day 6: Machu Picchu / Cuzco

Free day to return to Machu Picchu (re-entry fee and transfer included). You might want to wake up early and take some pictures from the Puerta del Sol in Machu Picchu. Today is also a great opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu. In the afternoon we will return by train to Cuzco.  Transfer to your hotel upon arrival in Cuzco. (B)

Day 7: Cuzco

Today explore Cuzco and your own pace.  Is the last day for shopping and visiting again your favorite sites. (B)

Day 8: Cuzco / Puerto Maldonado / Amazon Basin

Fly to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival we will stop at the Lodge's office in Puerto Maldonado where you can store any excess luggage. We will arrive to the lodge after a 20 minute drive and a 45 minute boat ride which offers beautiful views of exotic plants, birds and caimans. At the lodge you can enjoy great views of the Amazon from the Canopy tower. After dinner we will participate in an ecotourism lecture by a professional guide. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Amazon Basin

After breakfast you can choose from several guided tours such as the "Tres Chibadas Oxbow Lake". Once at the Lake we will paddle around the lake in a catamaran searching for Giant River otters, caimans, hoatzins and horned screamers. You can also choose to observe dozens of parrots and parakeets licking clay by the river. During the afternoon you can take an ethnobotanical tour that will expose you to botanical and medicinal wonders. After dinner you will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Amazon Basin / Puerto Maldonado / Lima

Enjoy a walk around the lodge before traveling to Puerto Maldonado to board your flight to Lima. (B)

Price: 10
days / 9 nights from $1,795 per person (includes 3% cash/check payment discount). Please add $395 for single occupancy. Additional fees apply if in Cuzco during the Inti Raymi festival (from June 22 to June 27). Please add $100 for trips in 2009.

If needed, please also budget from $375/person for 3 domestic flights from Lima to Cuzco, Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado and Puerto Maldonado to Lima (domestic airline tickets are non-refundable and subject to fees for any change). Final price determined at purchase date.

The above land package price is for groups of 2 or more and includes:

- All hotel accommodations (double occupancy).
- Meals as indicated in the itinerary - B: breakfast, L: lunch, D: dinner.
- All sightseeing as shown as part of an open group (private tours available).
- Services of bilingual professional guides.
- Cuzco/Machu Picchu train ticket (upgraded to the Vistadome train).
- Admission pass to Machu Picchu Ruins (two days)
- Airport transfers.
- All gratuities except to guides.
